Council Community Grant enables local group plan for wellbeing activities
A grant from Guildford Borough council will enable local community wellbeing group Eden People to plan new wellness sessions for local Guildford & Godalming residents. Their Body Blessing & Positive Postures Sessions are designed to encourage & motivate participants, build self-worth and awareness of their uniqueness & identity. They can support participant’s mental, emotional, physical and spiritual health. Evening & daytime sessions will be free; hosted in Guildford and are one hour in duration. Update from Mid-Surrey Oddfellows
Although The Oddfellows Halls (Leatherhead and Dorking) are closed and all events postponed for now just to reassure you the office is still working remotely with all calls and post still being collected, and we are still supporting members with our regular email newsletter and being social online. There is weekly seated Yoga online free for all members , and regular Mid-Surrey “coffee morning” chats and these are soon progressing to online quizzes, games, and talks etc. These events are for members only at the moment so we can support and manage the local members to get online. However there are some national Oddfellows events on zoom and facebook live that are public which you can see from this link, as well as details of the other support for members, such as the care and welfare support lines https://www.oddfellows.co.uk/. We will let you know as soon as we can safely start distanced events again in the Oddfellows Halls in Dorking and Leatherhead, until then hope to see you online at one of our events. Woking's Lightbox re-opens
Opening on Tuesday 11th August with a full line-up of exhibitions, The Lightbox is excited to, once again, welcome its visitors and wonderful community. The gallery and museum opens with two exhibitions featuring work from the acclaimed Ingram Collection, Redressing the Balance: Women Artists from The Ingram Collection (11th August–20th September 2020) and The Art of Watercolour (11th August–4th October 2020), alongside a photography exhibition by local artist Jo de Magneval, which captures the essence of this historic and challenging time. Mole Valley District Council has commissioned The Retail Group to run three webinars aimed to support you and your business. This will comprise of 'drop in' Q&A webinars specifically aimed at individual sectors: Wed 22 July, 6pm: Retail follow-up to reopening on 15 June 2020; Thurs 23 July, 8am: Close contact businesses - hairdressers, barbers, nail bars and beauty salons. St Giles’ and St George’s
The Church of England parish church in Ashtead, are pleased to advise that we are now starting to reopen for worship services. Beginning on 12 July, and then on Sundays 19 and 26 July, at 4pm at St George’s, there will be a reflective 40 minute service of Holy Communion to which all are very welcome. This is in line with current guidance, careful social distancing and hygiene protocols apply. Latest news from The Clockhouse, Milford Day Centre
The trustees continue to contact and support members and volunteers regularly. Our mobile lending library is popular and the number of books and DVDs has increased considerably thanks to some very generous donations. For those who wish to purchase a book or DVD they are on sale for £1. Alternatively, if you are not a regular attendee of The Clockhouse, you can borrow these for a small donation. Our hairdresser and foot clinic are now open by appointment only. Hairdresser Karen: Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday morning 07789 806953. Foot Clinic Freja: Thursday 07946 663126. They are hoping to open a small café soon. They are also collecting bags of clothes, shoes, bags, belts, linen, towels, curtains. All items must be clean. GUTS Motor Tour 2020

Good news that the GUTS Motor Tour is going ahead as per usual, raising money for Guildford Undetected Tumour Screening. It is open to any veteran, vintage or classic car, although modern classics are also welcome! This year's destination is Chawton House, near Alton. Hale Community Centre
They are pleased and excited to announce the opening of the Community Cupboard. The concept of the Cupboard is to become part of the solution of reducing the waste of surplus food by sharing. Their mantra is Take what you need, Donate what you can. The cupboard is running in conjunction with the existing Share Farnham Scheme. Please pop along and see them. They are open Tuesday & Friday 10am-12pm & Friday 2.30pm–4.30pm.
Dorking Museum
Although the Government is slowly relaxing social-distancing and other health and safety guidelines, Dorking Museum currently remains closed and external activities are on hold whilst plans are put in place to allow us to re-open and resume activities safely whilst continuing to offer an appropriate visitor experience. There will be no talks, family activities or special exhibitions during this period. Guided walks are on hold and may resume later this year, subject to conditions. South Street Caves will re-open next Spring. We look forward to welcoming all our visitors back as soon as possible. The Museum’s online shop is still available via the website and offers a wide range of Cockerel Press and other books of local interest, covering subjects as diverse as underground Dorking, a ‘lost’ 18th century country villa, Dorking pubs, suffragettes, motor racing, wartime Dorking, the Dorking Cockerel, village histories and the Mayflower. These may be ordered through the website, along with a selection of vintage and second-hand books and postcards. Voluntary Action South West Surrey – volunteers wanted!
This is a registered charity set up in 2008 to help support voluntary and community groups working in the boroughs of Guildford and Waverley. They are a Council for Voluntary Service and member of NAVCA (National Association for Voluntary and Community Action). As well as giving advice, information and support to local groups, they also run a Volunteer Centre recruiting volunteers for organisations working in South West Surrey. Surrey County Walkers
They have been in existence since 1983. For details of the club and their walks programme see https://e-voice.org.uk/surreycountywalkers or contact Colin on 01276 474258. They walk at weekends, on alternate Saturdays and Sundays, starting promptly at 10am. The walks vary from about 6 to 10 miles, mostly around the Surrey Hills area, plus some linear longer walks that are done in stages. Potential members are more than welcome to join us on our walks, they may sample up to two walks before being asked to join the club.
As they walk all the year in all weathers and over variable terrain, suitable footwear and clothing should be worn.
