The UNESCO Institute for Lilelong Learning (UIL) & IAU joint Global Survey is open until 15 November 2020
Lifelong Learning (or continuing education) plays a key role in advancing society by providing opportunities for personal growth all life long, and thus contributing to reaching SDG 4 - Quality Education. The HE sector has the unique potential to foster the development of Lifelong Learning (LLL); its contribution calls for better understanding.
UIL and IAU launch a global survey to collect qualitative data to inform how and to what extent HEIs worldwide are involved in the development of LLL.
 
The survey is open to all heads of HEIs globally until 15 November and is available in five languages.

Contribute a paper on SDG14 - Life below water
 
Together with the IAU, the University of Bergen calls for papers on Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 14 - Life Below Water. The publication will showcase examples of activities, best practices and ways in which universities get involved and engage with SDG14. The call is open to IAU Members and HE experts worldwide. Please submit your expression of interest by 16 November 2020.

IAU speaks at CLICKS' online conference
 
Giorgio Marinoni, IAU Manager, HE & Internationalization, intervened in a discussion panel organized by CLICKS on the impact of COVID-19 on Internationalization of Higher Education. The discussion higlighted the short and long-term consequences of the pandemic as well as strategies, alternative models and innovations to plan the future of internationalization and academic mobility.

IAU at the 2020 UNESCO Mobile Learning Week
 
The Mobile Learning Week is the United Nations' flagship event on Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in education, organized by UNESCO. The 2020 edition of the conference was hosted online from 12-14 October and was devoted to the theme 'Beyond Disruption: Technology Enabled Learning Futures'. Trine Jensen, IAU Manager, HE & Technology, chaired the break-out session on 'Resources for Distance Learning in Higher Education.'

IAU, ACU & AUF advocate for higher education at the UNESCO Global Education Meeting Extraordinary session
 
IAU, ACU and AUF contributed a position paper to the UNESCO Extraordinary Global Education Meeting on Education post-COVID-19 held on 22 October, to urge governments and stakeholders to include higher and tertiary education in the GEM Declaration which they helped draft.

UNESCO King Hamad Bin Isa Al-Khalifa Prize for the use of Information and Communication Technologies in Education 
 
The call for nominations for the UNESCO King Hamad Bin Isa Al-Khalifa Prize is now open until 18 December. The theme of the 2020 edition is: the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to enhance the continuity and quality of learning - which is one of IAU's priority work area. The call is open to individuals, institutions, and non-governmental organizations (NGO) with an established ongoing project relevant to the theme of the year. Learn more and take part!

The second edition of the AUF Campus Challenge 2030 has been launched
 
The second edition of the AUF Campus 2030 Challenge is now open to students and university professors and researchers who want to have a major impact on society and help to build the university campus of the future - a socially and environmentally sustainable one. This project fits into higher education's contribution to the 17 SDGs of Agenda 2030. IAU invites all its Members to take part in this project and/or spread the word!
ANIE & IEASA's conference on Innovation and Resilience in HE Internationalization
 
The African Network for Internationalisation of Education (ANIE) and the International Education Association of South Africa (IEASA) hosted a joint virtual conference on “Innovation and Resilience in Higher Education Internationalisation in an Era of COVID-19 & Beyond” in October 2020. Participants included delegates from all parts of the African continent as well as representatives of several members of the Network of International Education Associations (NIEA). Higher Education's engagement with the community
 
The UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning (UIL) published an issue note which aims to enhance higher education institutions’ engagement with local communities in the context of the current pandemic, now and in its aftermath. It is addressed to education policy-makers and planners as well as professionals in the higher education sector, suggesting concrete measures and encouraging them to take action.

Reference Framework of Competences for Democratic Culture - Guidance document for higher education
 
The Council of Europe Reference Framework of Competences for Democratic Culture (RFCDC) sets out 20 competences the education system should develop in students to prepare them for lives as active citizens in democratic societies. The competences included are organised in four clusters: values, attitudes, skills and knowledge and critical understanding. IAU Secretary General, Hilligje van't Land, actively participated in the preparation of this publication.

Inclusion & Education - All means all - Global Education Monitoring Report
 
The mandate of the Global Education Monitoring Report published by UNESCO is to be “the mechanism for monitoring and reporting on SDG-4 and on education in the other SDGs” with the responsibility to “report on the implementation of national and international strategies to help hold all relevant partners to account for their commitments as part of the overall SDG follow-up and review”.
