Dear

Believe it or not, we are just under 2 weeks away from the Woodley 10km.....kindly sponsored by Six Star Running & Fitness and in memory of a longstanding Woodley Town Councillor and Reading Roadrunner, David Stares who sadly passed away earlier this year.

Some important information you need to know about the event:

 BEFORE THE EVENT:

  • Your race number and timing chips are being POSTED to you this week. Huge thanks to Macbeth Insurance Brokers & Financial Services for sponsoring this extra unexepected event cost. PLEASE BRING YOUR RACE NUMBER WITH YOU TO THE EVENT.

PLEASE ENSURE YOU COMPLETE ANY MEDICAL DETAILS ON THE REVERSE OF THE NUMBER

  • The start list and times for the event can be found here.

  • Your race number will depecit which wave you are in. When you arrive onsite on the event day - please head straight to the relevant holding pen for your wave. Within the holding pen there will be a portable toilet and hand sanitiser available. PLEASE BE IN YOUR HOLDING PEN NO LATER THAN 5 MINUTES BEFORE YOUR START TIME. Please do your necessary warming up well away from the start line.

  • Please do not turn up to the event if you are unwell or displaying Covid symptoms as indicated here on the NHS website.

GETTING TO THE EVENT:

  • There is plenty of local parking nearby as shown here. Please note there is no parking at Woodford Park Leisure Centre.

AT THE EVENT:

  • There is no baggage drop facility - please only bring the bear minimum to the event site.

  • Social distancing must be observed at all times throughout the course, not only with fellow runners & marshalls, but also with the general public. This means you may have to wait or step off the path should the necessity arise. If you wish to overtake a runner infront - please communicate this to allow the runner infront to move over for you to pass safely.

  • Spectators are STRONGLY DISCOURAGED from attending the event - we appreciate this is not easy, but please help us to help everyone by abiding to this.

 DURING THE EVENT:
  • NO in-ear headphones to be worn – you will be disqualified, it is for yours and others safety. Bone conducting headphones are allowed.

  • There are NO WATER STATIONS this year - please bring your own hydration for during the event.

  • The course is a one 10km anti-clockwise lap around the roads of Woodley, exiting Woodford Park via Haddon Drive and coming back in via Headley Road.
  • First 3km of the route the roads are being traffic managed but are not entirely closed to traffic so please run on the pavement where safe to do so or the left hand side of the road.
  • Once you get to 3km (Old Bath Road) you are to run on the pavements – YOU ARE NOT PERMITTED TO RUN IN THE ROAD FROM THIS POINT ONWARDS with the exception of Mays Lane (between 5km - 6km) where there is no pavement and the traffic is being managed.

  • The route has been measured using pavements from where you join the A4 roundabout and the use of road (especially at roundabouts) will be considered as improper shortcuts.

  • You will be running on shared pavements, please be courteous and give space to the general public.

  • Please obey instruction for marshals at junctions and roundabouts – they CANNOT and WILL NOT stop traffic; but can manage you!!! Please be prepared to stop at junctions, crossing and roundabouts and to give way to other road users, traffic and pedestrians.

AFTER THE EVENT:

  • Medals and sealed bottled water will be available at the finish line.

  • There will be no prize giving on the day - trophies for 1st/2nd/3rd male female overall and 1st V40/V50/V60/V70 Male & Female will be posted to the winners after the event.

  • Once you have finished the event, we request you leave Woodford Park as soon as practically possible.

RUNNING IT VIRTUALLY?

You will still receive your race number in the post and can wear this on the day (you don't have to!). We will send you the link next week of where to upload your time from your run. We will then send your medal to you the week after the event.

If we cannot stage the event – and this may be a LAST-MINUTE decision that is taken
out of our hands, the event will take place VIRTUALLY on Sunday 25 October.
This means you run 10km on the day and submit your time and proof (Garmin/FitBit/Apple/Strava link) to our timing website. It really isn’t complicated – we ran several virtual events over the summer with no major issues.

The Woodley 10km has always been a community event with a charity donation linked to the event, and this would be no different if the event takes place virtually. We will be making a donation to Prostate Cancer UK, which is the Mayor of Woodley’s charity of the year.

We will of course keep you updated as/when we need to – in the meantime, keep healthy, fit and washing your hands.

Best wishes
Ellie & Ian
