Virginia Team Update
Special Edition of March 25, 2020
District Events & Local Church Meetings
Please see special invitation to pastors and key financial leaders of local churches at the bottom of this email.

Mission : Staying On Task
The Church isn’t closed. Yes, we are not meeting in our typical sanctuaries, but the church is not closed. Conference calls, Facebook Live, Zoom and many other platforms give us the ability to be the church that gathers in new ways. Gathering is important, and we are also the church that serves. Several churches have found ways to serve their community. Lynchburg First served 92 families via their “drive thru” food pantry. My advice: Look to see where God is working. Join Him there. Release creative people to try new ways to be the Church.

Local Church Annual Meeting – Business, Reports and Elections
Because our Manual has no provision for electronic local church meetings, we are hereby enacting a provision in the Manual that allows all locally elected leaders to have their term extended an additional year or until such a time that elections can be held. This provision applies to Church Board members, NYI Presidents, NMI Presidents, SDMI Chair. If you have a key vacancy in your elected leadership profile please contact the DRC and we’ll be glad to give you direction and assistance in the process. There is no provision for the Pastor and the Local Church Board to appoint board members. You will not need to elect delegates to Assembly or the various conventions.

District Assembly 2020 #REC20Vanaz – No In-Person Gathering This Year
The Board of General Superintendents has given the District Advisory Board authority to make a determination about District Assembly and Mission Convention.

No Assembly or Mission Convention this Year at SFCC: The DAB determined on 3/19/2020 that an in-person meeting for District Assembly is not feasible this year. That is correct NO DISTRICT ASSEMBLY OR MISSION CONVENTION GATHERING this year. For more information contact your pastor.

There will be no ordination service on the Virginia District at the typical District Assembly time this year. Alternative ordination plans may be worked out with the District Superintendent and the General Superintendent in jurisdiction. Dr. Sunberg has indicated her willingness to conduct ordinations at the soonest possible date where it is both secure and safe.
Church Giving in light of the
COVID-19 Pandemic Webinar
In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, ministry is required to adapt. As worship services are forced to go virtual for several weeks, it is likely giving will suffer. To offset that attrition, there are some things we can do.

In spite of the pandemic, ministry continues, and giving is what provides that ministry. Many of you are likely expanding ministries to your community in light of the situation, so strong giving is even more important.

We will discuss ideas and solutions to encourage strong stewardship during this season. Resources and links will be provided that you can use in your local context. A time of Q&A will also be provided.
You are invited to a Zoom webinar hosted by Generis and the Virginia District Church of the Nazarene.

When: Mar 27, 2020 10:00 AM Eastern Time
