Exeter Science Centre Community Interest Company

Public Newsletter: November 2020

Welcome to our first quarterly Exeter Science Centre Public Newsletter! We’re delighted to share our progress with you and we're very grateful for your support and interest. Read on to see what we’ve been up to!

The Story So Far

Since our launch in September 2019, we've been hugely motivated by the enthusiastic response we've had for the project from the many organisations and individuals we've spoken to. We know that this STEAMM Discovery Centre can and will make a genuine difference in the region, and although it is a mighty task, we are absolutely determined to make it happen!

Over the past year, we've been working on growing our team of advisors, making connections across the city and region, writing our preliminary business plan, setting up our Community Interest Company (we'll soon be converting to a Charity), starting our public engagement activities and applying for grants for this, getting quotes for aspects of the building design, and starting to work with academics to help share their research with the public. We've also received some welcome media attention.

Meet the Team

Let us introduce you to our amazing team of advisors - we're absolutely thrilled to have such experienced and inspiring people on board.

Public Consultation

We want Exeter Science Centre to be built for and with the public, so we will be working to ensure that your views are heard throughout.
Please let us know your views by filling in our survey.
We will also be hosting town hall meetings and pop-ups in the future to directly meet with you and work on the vision for Exeter Science Centre together.
Outreach

We have been very busy applying for grants to expand our public engagement and schools outreach programmes, including a pop-up in the centre of Exeter next year, so watch this space!

You can see our past and upcoming events here.

Art of Science Gallery

We loved seeing the public and research contributions to our Science as Art Gallery in the summer "Lockdown". We are now delighted to launch the Art of Science gallery, for professional and amateur artists alike, of all ages, to create art in any medium that has been inspired by Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics or Medicine and we will share it in our free online gallery. We can’t wait to see your creations!

STEMM@Home

It looks like we may all be stuck at home a little more this winter, so here’s some interesting and fun home science you can be getting on with to brighten up those chilly days.

Thought for the month!

We will have a big focus on global challenges in the work that we do: we’re not only looking at how STEMM research and industry is working to tackle them, but also how we can all play a part, as individuals and organisations.

Here’s a great place to start thinking about your own impact on the world and how you can reduce your carbon footprint with very simple, easy changes:
