When our staff found out that we were unable to offer the majority of our in-person camp programs this summer, they were understandably very sad. They then decided that they wanted to find a way to bring a little bit of that Kirby magic to you anyway. Introducing Camp Kirby in a box! We will be offering four different themed Camp-in-a-box options throughout the summer.
Each box will include a minimum of four activities related to the theme (arts & crafts, science experiments, outdoor education projects, etc.), two classic Kirby activities, and a piece of Camp Kirby swag from our Camp store. The best part is that these boxes will include every single thing that you need to complete the activities, right down to the tape and glue! At least two activities from the box will also have videos to accompany them that will help you complete the project. For more information, please check out our Camp-in-a-box page.

Virtual Auction Results
The Camp Fire Samish & Camp Kirby Virtual Auction was great fun! We're excited to announce that we raised over $10,000!!! There were plenty of items for everyone and I couldn’t help checking back multiple times a day to see who was “winning” what. The best part? All proceeds went directly to benefit Camp Kirby and our WAZZU bathroom renovation.
This week-long, online auction culminated with a live event hosted by Magician, Brian Ledbetter. Brian spoke from the heart, shared some Kirby and kid videos, and even threw in a little magic; and after all, that is what Camp Kirby is all about!
Thank you to all who participated and donated items to the cause! Your gifts are helping us provide a safe space for children to experience nature, build life skills, laugh with friends, and thrive in our ever-changing world.

Annual Meeting
We had a great showing for our first-ever annual meeting via Zoom! Each year, adult members gather to review the prior year's Annual Report to the Community, vote on major council issues, elect new board members, honor an outstanding individual or group, and to celebrate our success.

Camp Fire National presented us with an updated Bylaw template. After inserting our council specific information, the proposed Bylaw changes were presented to the group of attendees. An impassioned discussion, with regard to the repeated and exclusive use of male pronouns in the indemnity section, followed. Members expressed support for the document as a whole but ultimately voted to hold off approving the Bylaws as written, until the indemnification section is ratified. Revised verbiage was later submitted by Alice Sigurdson and has been presented to National for approval.

Please welcome Tracy Osborn, a Senior Training Specialist at People’s Bank, to our Corporate Board of Directors! Tracy comes to us with a wealth of community
connections, Camp Fire experience, and a strong desire to give back. Alice Sigurdson, Mark Roetcisoender, Shaun Wesen, Spencer Roozen, and Vanessa Veit were re-elected to their previous positions. Gail Grossman and Joan Harris were re-elected to the Nominating Committee. We are so lucky to have such a fabulous team!

The Whidbey US Marine Corp Engineers & US Navy Corpsmen were presented with an engraved commemorative brick for their outstanding volunteer service at Camp Kirby. With a multitude of skills, this group has come to camp for decades, taking on tough projects, mitigating issues, and continually making improvements to our facilities. We thank you!!

Despite incurring large expenses connected to a needed septic replacement, 2019
proved to be another successful year for Camp Fire Samish.

WoHeLo and thank you,
Erin Walker - CEO
Summer Programming
Classic summer programs may have been put on hold, but we are excited to be able to serve youth in late summer with our Day Camp programs! Four Day Camps will be offered that are packed with crafts, adventure, and summer camp magic.
Day Camps are open for youth ages kindergarten through 6th grade. Have your camper discover the wonders of the deep blue sea with our “Under the Sea” program, or explore the life of creepy-crawler-critters with our “Bug’s Life” program. To increase our reach to kiddos, we are also facilitating our Day Camp program at our Bellingham Wohelo Room location for the first time!

Virtual Club
Camp Fire Samish Clubs have not been able to meet in person since March, but that has not kept our youth from thriving! Club Members of all ages have been meeting virtually three times per week since March. Youth participated in art projects, science experiments, virtual scavenger hunts, baking, and much more.
We will continue to provide three weekly meetings for all Camp Fire Samish Club members through the summer. We are inviting new Club Members into our Virtual Meetings. As we wait for the time when we can meet in person, I am confident that our Clubs will continue to grow and thrive. Camp Fire Samish youth are strong, adaptable, and inspire me every day to try my very best.
