Virtual Club Meetings

Camp Fire Samish Club members have been meeting virtually three times per week since our schools have been closed. In our meetings, we sing camp songs, play games like charades and 20 questions, create art projects, participate in cool science experiments, and learn together. We are so proud to have all of these fantastic youth members in our council. Each week children of all ages have been showing up to our virtual meetings and making connections. Youth have the opportunity to stay connected and meet members from other Clubs.

Virtual Open House

Last weekend we held our first ever Virtual Open House! While it may not have had the same feel as getting to meet you all in person, we did have some great interactions with those who joined us on Facebook. We've included a link below to our Camp tour video that we have posted. A lot of the questions asked were about what Camp will look like this summer, and I shared that while we have many different plans, we do not have a definitive answer yet. Our weekly CEO updates are the best place to look for up-to-date information. Additionally, we discussed our themes for this summer, packing tips, questions about camper mail and care packages, and what a typical day looks like at Camp Kirby. Answers to these questions, and more, can be found on our website and in our Summer 2020 Handbook. I look forward to seeing you all again, hopefully soon, and hope that you are all staying safe and healthy.

WoHeLo,
Kathryn "KitKat" Deshaies

To Our Camp Fire Family -

With cautious optimism, we are navigating towards our Day and Resident Camp season with hope that we will return to some semblance of normalcy by summer. When this occurs, the youth in our community will need Camp Fire Samish & Camp Kirby more than ever. As they heal, reconnect with their peers, and rediscover the natural world beyond them, Camp Kirby will be there to provide youth a unique sense of belonging, family, and magic.

Since its inception in 1910, Camp Fire’s three guiding principles have been those of Work, Health, and Love (WoHeLo). There is no better reminder than a global crisis of
this magnitude to keep us focused on what matters the most.

Work - Work every day to make the world a better place. Use your unique skills and talents to bring joy, compassion, beauty, and love to those around you and everything
that you do.

Health - Health is the most important thing – without it, we can’t do anything. Take care
of yourself – physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually – so that you can be your best for others.

Love - Love is the meaning behind it all – it’s the fuel that keeps us going and reminds us why we are human. Love yourself, love each other, and love the world around you.

To this end, we need your investment to help us emerge resilient, and ready to provide a safe and inclusive space for our children to experience nature, build life skills, laugh with friends, and thrive in our ever-changing world.
We appreciate your understanding, partnership and trust.

Thank you, and WoHeLo -
Erin Walker

Jaime's New Role!

I have always enjoyed sharing a smile over the phone and in person so my new role as Office Manager keeps my spark shining brightly! I find much joy in organizing so I have had a lot of fun putting my skills to use.

I am a firm believer that creating an organized office space for the Camp Fire Samish staff members will help to maintain a positive work environment, reduce stress levels, improve creative thinking skills, contribute to smooth business operations and will make a good impression on office visitors!

I look forward to coming to work and embracing the WoHeLo spirit with everyone!

Youth create connections, learn new skills, and are empowered to lead through Camp Fire Samish programs. Even though lives are different because of COVID-19, youth have been able to engage with peers through our programs. Our energetic staff, Sasha “Hot Sauce,” Kathryn “KitKat,” and Aaron “Olaf,” have hosted virtual Club and virtual Spring Break. Please visit our website for information on programs and to find activities to enhance your homeschool curricula. We will continue to support youth during these times of uncertainty and separation, and we look forward to when we can all meet again on the fields of Camp Kirby.
