SPIRE: Joint Statement for an Ambitious Horizon Europe Programme
The SPIRE association has signed together with 92 other European associations a joint statement for the ambitious Horizon Europe programme urging the EU Institutions to make research, development and innovation (RD&I) a priority within the next Multiannual Financial Framework 2021-2027. The statement also calls on the Council of the EU to raise the budget allocated to the Horizon Europe programme to at least €120 billion (in 2018 prices), of which at least 60% should be dedicated to the “Global Challenges and European Industrial Competitiveness” pillar.

SPIRE Project Outputs 
Project output summaries are an important way for projects to share valuable resources and outputs from projects alongside other projects in the SPIRE programme. This new section of the SPIRE website allows you to browse and search through outputs from projects across the SPIRE portfolio. Projects are also encouraged to use this framework to share other resources that could be of use to SPIRE stakeholders and other projects. Check out the video which explains more and our website!

2018 SPIRE Projects' Brochure
The 2018 SPIRE Projects' Brochure has just been published and we invite you to discover it. As with previous editions, you will have the opportunity to read the summaries and scope of projects from the 2018 SPIRE calls that have just been successfully launched or are soon to be. What is different with this publication is that you will also have the pleasure to read a message from our Chair, Pierre Joris, as well as be able to learn more about A.SPIRE, the SPIRE 2050 Vision and the SPIRE 2050 Roadmap exercise. In addition, the brochure also provides success stories of several SPIRE projects. We encourage you to also have a look at the 2019 PMR and SPIRE's Vision in the publication section at the bottom of this newsletter.

CHPM2030: Combined Heat Power and Metals 
The CHPM2030 project ended on 30 June 2019, and aimed at developing a novel technology which combined deep geothermal energy production with metals extraction from the geothermal fluid in a single interlinked process, to reduce dependency on strategic raw materials. Learn more about the project’s activities, the final conference, the deliverables achieved, the report on the preparations for future pilots, and CHPM2030’s system integration and roadmapping.

CoPro: Vivid Discussions of First Project Outcomes with External Experts
On the occasion of the 2nd meeting with CoPro ISP members, R&D results of CoPro and first implementations at plants of the industrial project partners were presented to the experts from several industrial domains: chemicals, steel, metals, health care and crop protection. The ISP members in unison appreciated the developments of CoPro as relevant and useful for the whole process industry.

MefCO2: Final Dissemination Event 
The final event of the MefCO2 project took place on the 28th of May in Germany at RWE’s Coal Innovation Center, where the project results have been presented and guided visits to the pilot plant have been organised. The work carried out by each partner was presented to a sound audience including several experts from different industries, representatives of the European Commission, press and local politicians. “The impact of MefCO2 goes far beyond the results we are presenting today, we are setting the base for a more efficient strategy to CO2 conversion in the power industry by integrating renewable energy sources” says Angel Sánchez, founder of i-deals (project coordinator). “These type of technologies rely to a high extent in flexibility and MefCO2 has proven this operational scenario is feasible.”

NOVUM: 5th Consortium Meeting 
The NOVUM project will be having its 5th consortium meeting on 14 November 2019 in Paris, in the form of a workshop focusing on developing cellulose-based materials and manufacturing technologies for novel production of electrical insulation components. More information will come shortly.

SOLPART: Successful Commissioning of the Project's  Pilot Scale Calcination Solar Reactor   
 The SOLPART project aims to develop and implement, for the first time at a pilot scale, a high temperature (800-1000°C) 24h/day solar process suitable for reactive particle thermal treatment in energy intensive non-metallic minerals’ industries, such as cement, lime, phosphate or clay processing. We therefore invite you to discover the latest progress made on the pilot scale calcination solar reactor.
