IAU 16th General Conference: Save the date!
 
IAU is delighted to announce that its 16th General Conference will be hosted by IAU Member University College Dublin in Ireland, on 3-6 November 2020. It will be dedicated to the theme - Relevance and Value of Universities to Future SocietyThis year's General Conference will mark IAU's 70th anniversary! Reaching this milestone is an occasion to look back on the role of higher education over time and to discuss how universities can contribute to shaping the future of society and the sector itself.
 
IAU is pleased to invite you to take an active part in the conference and submit a proposal for one of the break-out sessions. Deadline for submission: 15 April 2020.
IAU Members will elect the new President and Administrative Board Members for the next four years and adopt the next strategic plan during the conference. To submit a candidacy to the Board, please contact n.poulton@iau-aiu.net
 
IAU's 70th anniversary celebratory book: call for contributions
 
2020 is a very special year for the International Association of Universities as it marks its 70th anniversary! To celebrate these 70 years of international collaboration, IAU wishes to publish a collection of essays focusing on relevant themes and challenges in higher education by revisiting the past, analysing the present, and looking into the future. 
 
To participate in this unique project, you must submit your abstract by 15 March 2020.

Share your experience - Higher education innovative solutions to fight coronavirus
 
While many countries are on high alert regarding the spread of the coronavirus, innovative solutions are being developed by universities to address the situation, avoid class disruption and ensure that international cooperation continues. To support the knowledge transfer across the world, IAU calls on its Members to share examples of initiatives undertaken to respond to the current challenges and inspire other institutions around the world to cope under the current circumstances.

Share your experience and solutions by email (iau@iau-aiu.net); IAU will share these on the IAU homepage in ‘News from Members’ or share it on twitter with the hashtag #HEfightscovid19 and mention @iau_aiu to be retweeted by IAU.

IAU Aiming Higher: Inspiring Values for a Better Future
 
IAU, in collaboration with BBC StoryWorks, created a video series - IAU Aiming Higher - promoting the role of universities as catalysts for the development of sustainable and democratic societies. Through this series IAU Members reaffirm the fundamental values of higher education and its role in transforming societies around the globe. So far, a total of 35 IAU Members participated in this unique project.

IAU site visit at the Asian Institute of Technology: new dates!
 
The site visit to the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) in Bangkok, Thailand on the topic "Social impact with innovation" is postponed to take place from 30 November to 3 December 2020IAU Members can already register for this unique opportunity to gain insights from AIT - an institute with significant experience and knowledge on how to leverage technology in higher education for a sustainable world.

UIL expert meeting: first step in a comprehensive research project on HE and Lifelong Learning
 
Last month, Dr. Hilligje van't Land, IAU Secretary General, and Lianne Guerra, Project Officer, participated in the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning (UIL) expert meeting to discuss the role of universities in promoting lifelong learning. The meeting marked the launch of a comprehensive research project that will be coordinated throughout 2020. The outcomes will be presented at the IAU 16th General Conference in Dublin and at the UNESCO World Conference on Higher Education (Fall 2021). The project consists of different components, including a Global Survey. Be prepared to take part in this important project!

SDG Bergen 2020 conference: 
Action/Inaction - Technologies and Partnerships
 
IAU Member, the University of Bergen in Norway, held its third national conference on Sustainable Development Goals with a special focus on #17 (SDG17 - partnerships for the goals). IAU Secretary General, Dr. van't Land was pleased to lead an inspiring panel on Technology and Knowledge for Sustainability and Equality. All presentations and debates were streamed live and are available online. #SDGbergen20
International Higher Education Teaching and Learning Association (HETL) - Call for chapter proposals
 
The International Higher Education Teaching and Learning Association (HELT) launches a call for chapter proposals for the book entitled : Governance and Management of Higher Education : International Perspectives on Institutional Leadership.
Submissions should be sent before 5 April 2020.
Makerere University will host the 2020 World Health Summit Regional Meeting
 
The World Health Summit Regional Meeting 2020 will take place in Kampala, Uganda on April 27-28. It is organized by IAU Member Makerere University in partnership with the Government of Uganda. The World Health Summit hosts 2,500 participants from over 100 countries. It is built on the academic foundation of the M8 Alliance, an international network of 25 academic institutions in 18 countries.

While IAU - created under the auspices of UNESCO in 1950 - celebrates 70 years of higher education cooperation this year, the United Nations celebrates their 75th anniversary. On this occasion, the UN has launched the biggest-ever global conversation on the role of international cooperation in building the future we want. Join the conversation!

Higher Education and Research for Sustainable Development Report

It shows the important role that Universities and other Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) play in the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) towards the 2030 Agenda set by the United Nations.

Discover the latest edition (December 2019) of our quarterly international peer-reviewed journal for advancing scholarly understanding of the higher education policy process.
