Virginia Team Update
A message from the District Superintendent …
VaNaz Summer Schedule Announcements
So much change. Each of us is feeling the impact of the changes in our lives due to the pandemic: graduations, weddings, birthdays, weekly worship, and more. And certainly, our hearts are deeply impacted by the tragic losses of life, and the serious illness that has ensued for so many. Everything seems different. These social distancing experiences are sure proof that we are created for fellowship. We are not made to live alone. Real disappointments in 2020 are many, though we will overcome. Just wait. You’ll see.

Sad News of Summer Cancellations
With sadness the Virginia District Advisory Board is officially canceling all in-person district activities through July 2020, including all in-person District Training Center classes (online continues), all in-person quizzing events (teen and children), all district boards and committees (online options available), all camps (DIG Campmeeting, Kidz Camp, Ultra Camp-Young Adult, and Ultra Camp-Teens).
The District Assembly, NMI and SDMI Conventions, scheduled for June 1, 2, and 3 in Fredericksburg, Salem Fields Community Church have also been cancelled. In a special provision provided by Church of the Nazarene polity the District Advisory Council will enact the necessary legislative business of the Assembly. The District NYI Convention scheduled for June 27 is going to be an online event – details to follow soon. This decision was reached prayerfully and after consulting at length with our district leaders, including all of our camp directors, department heads, the district staff and the District Advisory Board.

Good News – Certainty During Uncertain Times
  • The work of the church presses on. Just this Palm Sunday we received this report: “God is moving in a great way in the midst of our congregation. Eight people have accepted Christ as Savior and have reconciled with our Father. All glory goes to our Lord and Savior.” Pastor Jacquie Sanchez, Williamsburg Iglesia
  • Long term projects at the camp will be pursued. Contact Mark Hardy if you would be willing to volunteer a day or two to assist. Email:
  • We have a list of new Activity resources we wish to provide for the Virginia Nazarene Retreat Center. Our goal is to raise a substantial amount of funds to provide these additional resources for the camp for the years ahead. Goal $35,000. More on this detail soon.
  • Initial plans are underway for a few special “online” Campmeeting services of worship, encouragement and Challenge. More details on this will be coming together in the next couple of weeks.
  • Use of online platforms helps us maximize our investments and lower our costs but most importantly keeps us connected in many wonderful ways.
  • We are focused on the safety of everyone.
  • We have developed a COVID-19 Hope Fund to help pastors’ families if and when economic hardships arrive. Some of you would like to donate and you may do so online at
  • The DAB has a Financial Team in place to keep a close eye on our finances at the Camp and the District.
  • We are still able to support our new start churches and leaders.

Cheryl and I pray for every pastor by name every day. We lift each church before the Father, too. Many days we linger over names praying for specific requests about which we are made aware. If you would like to join in praying for our pastors, we are glad to provide you with the most recent prayer guide. (Click Here to download the prayer update)
