Virginia Team Update
From the Superintendent …
Allow me the privilege of sharing these items with you:
  • Five of our churches are currently in pastoral transition including: Portsmouth, Tidewater Central, Salem Fields Community, Norfolk Calvary and Leesburg. Your prayers are appreciated for these churches and their leadership boards as we complete the steps of identifying their pastor(s).
  • The Southside Campus Church in Amelia is off to a great start. This Newstart partnership between the District and Richmond Southside is led by Wayne (Carol) Lynch and had a fantastic launch in January. Please pray for them as new people start attending and God blesses their vision for Amelia.
  • Several of our churches are in the process of looking for property and or preparing for building programs. Pray that God will open all the right doors, including finances for these projects.
  • Mark (Amy) Hardy is serving as our new Executive Director of the Virginia Nazarene Retreat Center (The Camp), and he is inviting 100 persons to join him for Camp Rejuvenation Days (April 2-4, 2020). Please contact Mark at to learn more.
  • Ministry Team Retreat is just around the corner. We are expecting a record crowd of over 200 persons in attendance. Thanks to George and Glorice Stevenson for their leadership in this event.
  • Speaking of the Stevenson’s … they recently celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary. We are so grateful for their precious ministry in our churches and on our district.
  • Thank you to the Virginia District for making it possible for Cheryl and me to attend the recent District Superintendents’ Retreat sponsored by our Board of General Superintendents. Our time spent with these leaders was personally meaningful and renewing. We are honored to represent you in these gatherings. God is up to something good in our church in North America and around the world. My own heart for our mission and purpose was renewed.
  • Why are we here? The answer for the Church of the Nazarene is quite simply this:
           … holy Christian fellowship,
… preaching the gospel to everyone
           … the conversion of sinners,
… the entire sanctification of believers,
… the simplicity and spiritual power as evident in the New Testament Church,
May God help us live into these priorities fully every day.

For Others and for HIS Glory,
Phil Fuller

**PLEASE don't forget your
Church Board Recommendation form!
What if there was a group of professors and pastors who you could hire to teach your congregation leadership skills, Nazarene fundamentals, discipleship practices, how to study the Bible, etc? What if they would let you know when each person finished each course so that you could make celebration of discipleship part of your normal rhythm of church life? What if this was also connected and recognized by other congregations as quality training for our transient sheep? If we had something like this, we could have mature believers that encourage, train, and come alongside other believers to spur each other on. Don’t overlook one of the best FREE resources online in the Church of the Nazarene.
2020 SDMI Leadership Conference
September 19-October 1, 2020
The Year of Discipleship and LC2020
The Board of General Superintendents is calling the year 2020, “The Year of Discipleship.”

LC2020 will be an invaluable time for vision casting and sharing our new concept for SDMI. Do not miss this special time together!

LC2020 is designed for district SDMI chairs, SDMI district officers (women’s and men’s ministry leaders, single adult ministry leaders, children’s ministry leaders, CLT leaders), district superintendents, and all SDMI disciplemakers. We invite every district to bring a team of leaders! Space is limited, so you need to secure your reservation early.
