Two important deadlines are coming up today for the open consultation on technology and the call for abstracts on "Higher Ed in the Digital Era". Please do contribute!

...that IAU Global HESD portal features 730 universities and 720+ actions for sustainable development? The portal showcases innovative work from higher education institutions (HEIs) around the world. The actions include: student and leadership initiatives, research projects, Living Labs, Green Campuses, etc . The portal aims to build synergies among HEIs and showcase their contributions to the implemntation of Agenda 2030. We are constantly on the look out for new exciting initiatives! PRIORITY UPDATES
 
 
Sustainable Development
 
IAU will soon launch its second Global Survey on HESD, which will provide comprative analysis of HESD trends around the world and highlight diverse understandings of sustainable development around the world. The survey will be available from mid-April to July 2019. IAU will present the initial findings at the HLPF in New York and publish the report by the end of this year. Internationalization
 
IAU awarded Cardiff Metropolitan University with the Comprehensive Internationalization Learning Badge in recognition of successfully embedding internationalization in its institutional strategy and operations. Prior to this, Cardiff Met U undertook IAU's advisory service ISAS (2.0) to assess its progress in implementing a holistic approach to internationalization. IAU offers tailor-made advisory services to HEIs, individuals, national governments and organizations. Contact: Giorgio Marinoni.
 
 
 
Leadership
 
IAU is looking forward to the upcoming LGEU session on 2-7 June in Paris, France. This flagship leadership development programme will be hosted by our Member ISIT. We've already received 40+ applications from university leaders across the globe. Technology
 
On 27-28 March, IAU held its first Institutional Site Visit at UOC. The visit combined plenary and interactive sessions on a variety of tech-related solutions for enhancing higher education and achieving SDG 4. We welcomed 23 participants from 17 countries, both online and onsite universities. IAU IN THE WORLD
 
SDG-EDUCATION 2030 STEERING COMMITTEE
On March 11-12, IAU participated in 6th SDG-Education 2030 Steering Committee meeting at UNESCO HQ in Paris, France. This unique multi-partner mechanism led by UNESCO seeks to achieve SDG 4. IAU was pleased to be invited to this strategic meeting and represent the voice of higher education institutions. Together with its key partners, AUF and ACU, IAU called for the recognition of higher education as a key stakeholder for achieving SDG4 and all 17 SDGs.  See more here.
 
GLOBAL CONVENTION ON RECOGNITION OF HE QUALIFICATIONS
On 19-22 March, IAU participated in the second meeting for the Global Convention on the Recognition of HE Qualifications and contributed to the multilateral drafting process. The meeting resulted in the finalisation of the text for the convetion. The text will now be submitted for adoption at the UNESCO General Conference in November this year. See more here.
 
CoE MEETING ON THE DEMOCRATIC MISSION OF HE
On 27 March, IAU's Secretary General Dr. van't Land participated in a public debate at the Central European University (CEU) on academic freedom and institutional autonomy. Dr. van't Land stressed the importance of core university values for the future of higher education and of our societies at large. The conversation was co-organized by the Council of Europe (CoE) and CEU, and held on the occasion of the CoE's expert group meeting - Reference Framework of Competencies for Democratic Culture. IAU has been part of the expert group since 2015. See more here.

IAU is pleased to welcome Universities Caribbean in our global higher ed community! It was founded in 1967 to foster cooperation among the HEIs and centres in the Caribbean region. Together with its 29 members, the Association supports regionalization, enhances resilience of universities and facilitates greater access and mobility for students and researchers. The Association believes that higher education is central to prosperity and social chance. It is committed to fostering new and innovative solutions, which address the pressing challenges in the caribbean.

The Bologna Process beyond 2020: fundamental values of the EHEA
24-25 June, Bologna, Italy
 
Università di Bologna, jointly with the Italian Ministry for Education, Universities and Research, under the aegis of the Observatory of the Magna Charta Universitatum and the European University Association (EUA) will celebrate the Twentieth Anniversary of the Bologna Declaration. The  IAU Secretary General Dr. van't Land will give a keynote presentation.
