The IAU 2019 International Conference is on Transforming Higher Education for the Future, hosted by BUAP in Puebla, Mexico from 13-15 November 2019. Shape this timely conversation by submitting a proposal for one of the breakout sessions. Submit an abstract (500 words) by 15 April.

...that IAU has just published its 2018 Annual Report? It provides an overview of past year’s achievements and provides a glimpse of planned activities. IAU recognises that the past year was worrying in light of increasing attacks on fundamental values higher education. “As the global association of higher education institutions and organisations, IAU fosters meaningful dialogue and cooperation to find viable ways of moving forward" - writes Hilligje van’t Land, IAU Secretary General. IAU is thankful to its Members and partners for supporting its vision and mission. We look forward to working with you ever more closely for the benefit of higher education!
PRIORITY UPDATES
 
 
Sustainable Development
 
The IAU is pleased to announce that it will take part in the UN High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development on 9-18 July in NYC, USA. Together with key partners, IAU will organise an event to address the theme, "Empowering people and ensuring inclusiveness and equality". The SDGs to be reviewed in depth are the following: 4, 8, 10,13, 16 and 17. To ensure that the voices of HEIs are heard at the HLPF, IAU will produce a series of publications on university engagements with the goals. IAU invites you to send examples of how your institution engages with the goals. Contact Stefanie Mallow.
 
Internationalization
 
IAU has accepted 30 applicants for the first UNICA-IAU Master Class on Internationalization on 7-10 April in Dubrovnik, Croatia. We are excited to welcome participants from all over the world, including France, Iran, Nicaragua, Pakistan, Romania, South Africa and Tanzania. The Master Class is designed to address the needs of today's Vice-Rectors/-Presidents for Internationalization. It will give them tools and insights about building, implementing and evaluating a successful values-based internationalization process. For further inquiries, please contact Giorgio Marinoni.
 
 
 
Leadership
 
IAU is looking for Members who would like to host the second session of LGEU 2019. This 5-day professional development programme attracts university leaders who are interested in global engagement. In the past, IAU Members have hosted LGEU in Malaysia, Ireland, Colombia, Botswana, Canada and Romania. For the upcoming session in June, we are pleased to welcome participants to ISIT in Paris, France. Please contact Juliette Becker.
 
Technology
 
Join IAU at the UNESCO the Mobile Learning Week, which takes place from 4-8 March in Paris, France. It is dedicated to Artificial Intelligence (AI) for Sustainable Development. On 5 March, IAU will hold a session on Leveraging AI for Higher Education. Members from Spain, Malaysia and South Africa will present innovative initiatives that seek to enhance the quality of teaching and learning. IAU's Higher Education Policy: New Issue is out!
 
We have just released the new edition of Higher Education Policy. It is a special issue focusing on "Taking Account of 20 years of Quality Assurance in German Higher Education". With this quarterly peer-reviewed journal IAU aims to advance scholarly understanding of the higher education policy process around the globe. The Bologna Process beyond 2020: fundamental values of the EHEA
24-25 June, Bologna, Italy
 
Università di Bologna, jointly with the Italian Ministry for Education, Universities and Research, under the aegis of the Observatory of the Magna Charta Universitatum and the European University Association (EUA) will celebrate the Twentieth Anniversary of the Bologna Declaration. The  IAU Secretary General Dr. van't Land will give a keynote presentation.
