Nature Journal News: August Update
August Nature Journal Club Field Trip:
A day with birds, an evening with bats!

SUNDAY, AUGUST 25, 10am-8:30pm
Join us as we explore the wetlands and rice fields of the Yolo Bypass area near Davis. We will spend the day tootling around the refuge, looking for otters and birds. Enjoy a potluck lunch, drawing demonstrations, and plenty of time to sketch, journal, and explore. Our program usually ends at 4:00 pm, but not today. We will extend our afternoon, sketch more, have a potluck dinner together, and then stay to watch the bats fly out at sunset! All are welcome, and no registration is required. $20 suggested donation.

Out Of Africa

I was fortunate to spend the majority of my summer in Africa, journaling about the incredible wonder and beauty in this part of our world. I have shared some pages from my journal on Instagram if you would like to see them.

California Kids Bird Art Contest

The San Francisco Bay Bird Observatory is sponsoring a bird art contest for children ages 3-17. Children are encouraged to spend time outside recording information about birds in their neighborhood or nearby park/refuge and collect observations in a scientific drawing with notes, like a page in a field guide (see example from SFBBO above). Artwork will be featured at current and future SFBBO events as well as displayed on website and social media. It is FREE to enter! There are three age groups, and the deadline is October 4.
