Code of practice against disinformation
Google, Twitter, and Facebook as the signatories of the Code of Practice, which is a part of the Action Plan against disinformation, have reported taken actions in February against disinformation in Europe. The Code of Practice was issued to prevent and resolve threads of disinformation.
UK parliament slams Facebook on data protection
"Final Report” was launched at the UK parliament in the mid of February, which was initiated in the scope of Facebook fails with user’s personal data protection, countless scandals and a threat of disinformation through modern mass media networks.
France: 3% tax for large internet companies
While the EU can’t reach the agreement on the taxation for large internet companies and establish its framework, French government has already suggested to settle down the level of taxes and criterias for potential taxpayers. Most of this change will affect only huge companies like eBay and others.
Cyprus: Innovation Radar Declaration
On April 4, 2019 Cyprus signed the Innovation Radar declaration “which provides easy access to innovations supported by EU funding and the innovators behind them, and helps important new products and services to reach the market.”
Germany: lack of Legal Framework on Blockchain
Bundestag’s Finance Committee held a public hearing on a blockchain regulation on March 11, 2019. The main purpose was to discuss and develop a workable legal framework for its use to protect financial market form possible threats in the developing digital world and keep pace with innovation.
Germany: ready for digitalization
According to the federal government 1.3 million so cold “old jobs” will be lost with creation and modernization of the new ones. Due to keep the workers acknowledged with modern trends and prevent unemployment already two (governmental and private) initiatives have been implemented.
Croatia: eHealth system
Healthcare system becomes more efficient. By a decision of the eHealth Member State Expert Group was agreed that Croatia now can send and receive ePrescriptions across borders and receive the Patient summaries of citizens coming from other European countries.
Danemark: PostNord tests parcel boxes
The NordPost tries to improve customers experience of a delivery goods from online shops. Together with company Swipbox they started to deliver parcels to the digital boxes that can be open by the recipient with a help of his/her phone app. For now, the project is in a test regime only in one city - Kolding, but in case of success the Swipbox doesn’t disclude the spread to other Nordic countries.
23% of ecommerce in Europe is cross-border
The ‘Top 500 Cross-Border Retail Europe’ research was launched and shows new numbers on the e-commerce in Europe for 2018. The online cross-border market in Europe has seen a turnover of EUR 95 billion (excluding travel) in 2018, corresponding to a cross-border share of total online sales of 22.8%.
UK looks the other way on AI
The question of face recognition technologies, their usage by law-enforcement bodies and legal regulation appeared with the new strength. While the society and business require the parliament to settle down face recognition regulation to avoid violation of human rights, China has already been using face recognition technology, Germany is testing it.
