Klevabrick

A letter to all Developers, Contractors and Builders

The current lockdown and economic climate has brutally disrupted the construction industry.

WHERE DO WE GO FROM HERE?

Working from home is our reality for the foreseeable future, so we can only plan for when life returns to the “new normal”.

However, the workplace will not return to how we knew it before Covid19, rules and regulations to protect employees will have to be put in place and strictly adhered to. These are costs and time constraints, which have not been factored in.

Opportunities to obtain new work may also shrink.

We need to get smarter and examine other building options that will improve our competitiveness and long-term prosperity. If we don’t do it, our competitors will!

As creatures of habit in the construction industry, the watchword is “stick to what you know”.

HOW DO WE STICK TO WHAT WE KNOW, IN A NEW ENVIRONMENT AND STILL MAKE MONEY?

We know the general cost of the age-old process of building by placing one brick on top of another, using mortar as the glue as well as a skilled bricklayer and the relevant trades needed for completion.

There are many Alternative Building Technology ideas and options available. Most have not gained traction, mainly because of the high level of new on-site skills and equipment required.

It’s more convenient to “stick to what we know”.

An Alternative Building Technology product is needed, which most closely mimics what we know and keeps employee training and the costs down.

THE KLEVABRICK BUILDING SYSTEM IS THE PRODUCT!

This is the only system that follows standard building practices i.e. brick on brick. The only difference is that the traditional method uses mortar and Klevabricks are bolted together, but the end result is the same.

WHAT IS KLEVABRICK?

Klevabricks are in essence blocks of a finished wall that are bolted together. The concept can be compared to lego blocks being placed on top of each other. Each Klevabrick is steel reinforced and has embedded conduits and therefore no chasing is needed. This makes electrical and plumbing installations easier and cost-effective.

Klevabricks use a simplified foundation procedure. It is also independent of workmanship, which enables better use of skilled labour. The exterior profile is either a chamfered off shutter smooth paint and maintenance-free finish or a flat-faced plaster and paint finish, which makes Klevabricks suitable for all classes of projects.

Klevabrick is approved
by the department of Science and Technology and has an Agrément Certificate.

The product is suitable for building houses, schools, shopping centers, factories and hotels.

Value is King!

Both designs have top quality finishes which include tiled floors and walls to baths and kitchen, quality cupboards, concrete tiled hip roofs and aluminium windows. Klevabricks are therefore suitable for the most exclusive high-end projects.

RDP Housing Options

The Klevabrick RDP options follow the same process but with optionally less in quality finishes, resulting in costs that fall into the current quantum being paid by human settlements. However, the ability to manufacture Klevabricks on-site by movable and durable moulds, encourages local participation and employment.

ROOFING

We have partnered with Dezzo Roofing to finish off the Klevabrick model, with a range of quality, long lasting roof truss options that fit seamlessly into the Klevabrick construction process. A wide range of energy saving methods can be incorporated seamlessly.
AVAILABILITY

After detailed comparisons of time, effort and costs, Devco (Pty) Ltd not only elected to use Klevabrick in the hundreds of houses and other developments they do each year but decided to manufacture Klevabricks as well.

Devco (Pty) Ltd are contracted to manufacture and supply Klevabricks to Gauteng and are busy with the establishment of their factory in Aeroton, Johannesburg. It’s projected that this facility will come online within the next 3 months.

PROFESSIONAL RECOGNITION

I first saw a Klevabrick sample wall from a distance back in 2016. Initially, I thought it was a sandstone wall. The colour and sloped face created a distinct look. Since then I have made it a point to follow the development of this product.

While it has obvious advantages in terms of time/cost-effectiveness, I sincerely believe that the possibilities in terms of the aesthetics are tremendous. Especially as there are options to have a variety of colours and textures for the Klevabrick face.

Finally, this is also a reinforced concrete product. Therefore, I am convinced that there will be a significant number of engineering applications.
